Last year we bought a house here. Alameda has some of the best rated schools in the bay area. When I worked in San Francisco the commute was a 20 min ferry ride across the bay. I glanced over your shoulder and remembered the name of the Wordpress blog you were posting to. ;-) I commute to SF and my wife commutes to Fremont. We have found that San Ramon is the ideal location for us. I grew up in town and after leaving for college and then living and working in the south bay for 8 years, decided to buy a home back in San Ramon. The community is great and well situated. The school district is one of the best in the state, it's an attractive and safe town and while there's not a ton of dining and entertainment options in town, Danville and Walnut Creek are not far away. My wife has a 30 minute commute. My commute is about 1:10 including a 20 minute drive to the Castro Valley station, a 35 minute train ride and a 15 minute walk to my office near South Park.
